About the Artist
An Obituary written by Florence Nightingale Levy printed in the 1916-1917, Volume 14, page 319 of the American Arts Directory produced by the American Federation of the Arts, reads as follows,” Barlow, John Noble – A painter, died at St. Ives, Cornwall, England. March 24, 1917. He was born in Manchester, England in 1861 and became a citizen of the United States in 1887. He was a pupil of Jules-Joseph Lefebvre, Paul Delance, and Benjamin-Jean-Joseph Constant in Paris. He was an Honorary Member of the Providence Art Club and is represented by three landscapes in the Rhode Island School of Design, Providence; Brown University’s Gardner House, and the Providence Art Association. He received a medal at the Paris Salon in 1889, and a Silver Medal at the Paris Exposition of 1910.”
